Hey, you made it!

Thanks for being here. Seriously.

A group of people attending a live music session with a band playing, some people are standing and watching, while others are engaged in worship or prayer. This was vssls' first live worship night on January 26, 2026, the hottest day in SA, Aus

so… what is vssls?

we're a worship collective from the Adelaide Hills writing songs for the Church—songs anchored in Scripture, Jesus-focused, and Spirit-led from start to finish.

The name vssls comes from the Bible. Vessels of honour. Jars of clay. Empty containers that God fills and uses.

We're not chasing viral moments. We're writing songs we believe will be sung for decades—modern psalms that God will use to shape lives.

and here’s the thing…

we're youth-first.

That doesn't mean we're just for young people. We’re here because we believe God is doing something in your generation — and we want to be part of it.

We write songs that help you express what's already stirring in your heart. Songs for the moments when you're alone with God, wrestling through doubt, or discovering breakthrough. Songs for your youth group, your room, your car, your altar.

A group of people standing in a music session, some with musical instruments, others holding sheets or music stands, engaged in singing or playing music, with a band or group of musicians leading them in worship. Held at Atelier Theatre, Mount Barker

On 26 January 2026, we hosted our first live worship night — a gathering of empty vessels at Atelier Theatre, Cornerstone College in Mount Barker. It wasn't a concert. It was a room full of people hungry for God, and He showed up.

That night, we recorded our debut single — including one that almost never made it out to the world:

“Friend to me”

and in a spur of the moment, Joel hit record on his voice memo and said to Jordan,
"can you summarise everything you said this afternoon… I think there's a song about it."

and ended up in Luke's lounge room —

It started one Sunday afternoon.

We grabbed lunch with our mate Jordan, went to the park,

Three young men sitting on a park bench, smiling and talking, with food and drinks on the table in front of them, during what appears to be a late afternoon or early evening in fall.

kept talking through dinner,

Three young friends smiling and taking a selfie while sitting at a restaurant table with plates of fried chicken (schnitzel) and salad. Oak and Iron Tavern in Mount Barker SA. It looks to be dark outside and a busy restaurant.

kept chatting in the car,

Three teenage boys sitting in a car, smiling and talking to each other, with the driver steering wheel visible in the foreground. The car looks to be a Subaru. There is a house in the background and it looks to be night time.

and ended up in Luke's lounge room —

and in a spur of the moment, Joel hit record on his voice memo and said to Jordan, "can you summarise everything you said this afternoon… I think there's a song about it."

Three young men are in a living room, engaging in a musical jam session. One is playing a keyboard while the other two are singing and chatting. The room has bookshelves, a flat-screen TV, and a dining area outside the sliding glass door.

After we worked past the initial awkwardness… out came the line:

"help me to see in the simple things".

"help me to see in the simple things".

Three boys in a room, two sitting close together with reading John 15 of the Bible, the third playing piano, surrounded by books and a computer.

We finished the chorus that night.
Jordan asked for one of the lines to be:

"I want to know you".

In the days that followed, the rest of the song came together —
a prayer to hear God speak, to treasure His word, to sit in His presence like you would with a close friend.

We thought it was just for us. A song loop for personal worship.

Young man with dark hair singing into a microphone, next to a young man playing keyboard, in front of a small audience with one person raising their hand, in a dimly lit room. Looks to be a youth worship service in the Adelaide Hills.

Then one night, Joel was leading worship at a youth gathering and felt to leave some space in the song choice. He felt like God was up to something, but was not 100% sure on where God wanted to take it.

The bridge of “Friend to me” flowed out in that moment, and Joel later discovered that the preacher had prepared a message straight out of John 15, the exact passage the song was anchored in.

A song born between three friends became an anthem for that group of young people, not just in the response time of that night, but it became a prayer that they were singing since then.

And on January 26, a room of people, quite a few who did not know who Joel and Luke were, also made this the cry of their hearts. This was where the song was recorded live, and it comes out to the world on 13 February 2026 - not a perfectly polished production, but a sound from a room of people hungry to make this song their prayer and their desire.

Here's something we discovered along the way.

"Friend to me" doesn't specifically name whether it's about God the Father,
God the Son, or God the Holy Spirit.

And we think that's beautiful — because Scripture shows all three wanting friendship with you.

God the Father called Abraham a friend.
Jesus said, "I no longer call you servants… I have called you friends" (John 15:15).
And He promised not to leave us as orphans, but to send the Holy Spirit to be with us always.

This Valentine's Day, while the world talks about love, we're pointing to the greatest love there is.

Jesus said it Himself: "No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).

He doesn't just love you. He calls you friend.

“There's no greater love,
what a friend to me."

That’s what this song is about.

Our three-in-one God — in all His fullness — has this desire to be FRIENDS with us in the simple moments of our lives.

That’s what this song is about.

It drops this Friday — 13 February.

“There's no greater love, what a friend to me."

A friend who's lonely. A mate going through it.
Someone who's never felt like they belong.
Someone who's been let down by people who were supposed to love them.

It’s not an event. It's not a sermon. It's a conversation starter —
something you can share with anyone, whether they follow Jesus or not.

We built it for you to send to that person on your heart right now.

This Valentine's Day, we're running something called NOGREATERLOVE — and it's built around one question:

Share it. Send it in a DM. Drop it in your group chat.

You don’t need to have all the answers —
just be the friend who points them to the Friend.

YOU PROBABLY KNOW SOMEONE WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THIS

WHAT IF THE GREATEST FRIENDSHIP YOU

COULD EVER KNOW ALREADY CHOSE YOU

we’d love to hear your story.

It doesn't have to be dramatic.

Maybe a lyric from "Friend to me" hit you differently than you expected.
Maybe something shifted in your prayer time.
Maybe you played one of our songs for a mate and it opened up a conversation you didn't expect.

That stuff matters to us. A lot.

We read every single one. And we pray over every person who writes in.

what's God doing in your life?

It doesn't have to be a big thing. A moment in worship. A lyric that hit different. Something that shifted in your prayer time. We'd love to hear it — and we pray over every one.
