a taste of day 5 · Jesus the Word became flesh
The Word isn't just something God speaks. The Word is a Person of God.
"So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of grace and truth." — John 1:14 NLT
Two thousand years ago, the Word put aside his heavenly privileges, came from the Father and took on human flesh, born through a willing vessel, in a manger, became acquainted with our sorrow and grief. He pointed people to the heart of God, introduced us to His voice, revealed His character through His Word and His works. And then, he took our place on the cross and laid down his life.
Advent points to Christmas, and Christmas was always walking to Easter. Yet the day on the cross was so much more than a day of death. It is the day the Creator — the Word who spoke light into darkness, having entered fully into his creation — stepped into the full measure of darkness himself, taking on the full weight of sin on himself on the cross, feeling the full devastation of being cast out of God's presence, so that the darkness of sin can never again extinguish the light that he gives.
