Imagine yourself in Mary's shoes for a moment — according to their cultural norm, as though you've never come across this story. A teacher comes into the house where you live — where you normally have a role with all the busyness. There must have been a strong pull that got Mary to leave her post, muster up the courage to not just sneakily eavesdrop, but to take the seat at Jesus' feet. She moved from the default, expected, widely accepted, to curiosity, to a physical move in response, and then settled position with commitment.
