When God calls you, you do it
On the 26th of January we gathered to worship.
It was the hottest day South Australia had seen in seventeen years. The venue warned us it might have to close. The technical problems didn't let up all night. None of it mattered — His presence filled the room.
In the planning, one phrase wouldn't leave us. We'd read in 2 Kings 4 about gathering empty vessels — "not just a few" — and we kept asking God what that meant for the night. Every time, the answer came back the same, almost funny in how plain it was: "not just a few" means "not just a few." He was faithful to it. The right people were in the room, and His presence was tangible.
Some of them, we only learned on the night, were there because God sent them. As we set out to prepare for the night, we kept feeling like something was missing. It eventually drove us to pray “God, is there someone we should be inviting that we haven’t already?”
Out of this, we felt to look at Life FM, the Christian radio station in Adelaide. We learnt about Life FM's Life Diary. We listed the worship night, we never asked for radio time; they promoted it anyway. Groups drove in from as far as Munno Para and McLaren Vale — more than an hour drive to Mount Barker — because of that listing. One group said it to us plainly: "When God calls you to do something, you do it."
None of them use social media. They had no way of knowing that this exact sentence had been at the centre of our own wrestling about whether to step out with vssls at all. God reached them by a route we hadn't built — and then spoke back to us, through strangers, the very thing we'd been turning over in private.
Eight days before the night, we'd felt prompted to add a segment we hadn't planned — a segment focused on peace. One of the songs we included here was our own "peace for tomorrow." The revelation we shared: peace isn't only a promise but a Person — that when we hand our lives over as His vessel and invite the Prince of Peace into the boat, we can rest in the wind and the waves because He is right there with us. Afterward, many told us this segment particularly spoke straight into what they were carrying.
People came from different backgrounds and different church families, and simply worshipped together. And we’ve continued to hear about hearts that are opening to Jesus, our Friend.
We didn't gather a crowd. We made room. And He poured.
What happens from here?
We’re believing to release Friend to me on Valentine’s Eve, February 13, so that Valentine's Day points to the grace and truth in this line: "there's no greater love, what a friend to me."
We’d love prayer for clarity on our next steps. We have finished songs that didn't feel right to include in the worship night, unfinished songs, and ideas in seed form. Many attendees have asked for more worship nights, merchandise, and content. We want to move only as God leads. Pray for wisdom and discernment on what to prioritise and when.
We've had feedback that people want study guides, devotionals and discipleship resources to go deeper into the Scripture behind our songs. It’s something that had been on our hearts, but we'd love prayer for the Holy Spirit to show us how to best resource people with these materials.
And we’re continuing to learn what it means to offer our lives to him — “My life your vessel”.
